Grant Steele

Grant Brian Steele 1948-2019

Grant Steele (2/15/48-5/9/19) died suddenly in May, and his wife Bonnie (2/7/49-6/14/19) died just five weeks later in June.

Grant and Bonnie Shaffer met at the Target Ballroom in 1964 (she was in Mt. Rainier's Class of 1967) and married in Renton on August 23rd, 1968.  They are survived by their sons Grant and Joseph, and daughter Wendi (Hawley), and lots of grandchildren.

This is so sad. I knew him a little because I was best friends with his cousin Bette. He seemed like a very nice guy.

So sorry to hear about Grant. He was fun to be in class with—witty, smart and outgoing—a good contributor.  I’m so glad to have known him. Seems like I just saw him at our reunion. RIP Grant.

So very sorry to hear this. Grant and I knew each other through Normandy Park Elementary, Sylvester Jr. High, and then Highline.

One fond memory that immediately comes to mind was that he was the first (and only) after-school fight in grade school that I ever had. Nothing publicized. Just the 2 of us and the boxing gloves that my parents provided. Definitely a drawn match with no blood but a lot of flailing about with little contact.

RIP my friend, and thanks for the good memories.

Yes, I remember Grant. Sad to read about his sudden passing.

We must have been freshmen at the University of Washington and I remember Grant telling us it was bush-league and lame to give someone the finger in traffic.  Instead you should roll down your window and shake your fist at him.  Words to live by.  He was a class act; he was good to everyone around him. We talked at the 50th and I'm so sorry I won't see him again.

Grant and I were good friends since Jr. High at Sylvester.  Played football together. Went to Westport and Illwaco fishing with his Dad. Have so many great memories.  He was my best man at my wedding. Sending prayers and our deepest condolences to Bonnie and the family. So hard to hear of his passing.   Way to young. RIP dear friend.

I also went through Junior High and High School with Grant. Grant loved to sing in the boys locker room, changing the words to songs, just like Weird Al did with so many songs.

Like everyone else, I can't believe that he is gone. I am glad that he made it to the 50th to visit with everyone and this is somewhat of a wake up call for all of us to be sure to make it to all the rest of the upcoming events and reunions, if possible in the future.....I didn't make it to the last one and I do regret missing everyone!!

"RIP" Grant

A very nice memorial event was held for Grant and Bonnie Steele this past Saturday, September 28, 2019. The event was held at the Normandy Park Cove and was well attended.  The oral and video presentations brought back a lot of memories of  two special people.  Bob West
