In Memory

Cathy Rogers (Hansen)

Cathy Hansen Cathy Hansen embarked on her next journey Dec. 12 following a courageous fight, battling both Acute Dilated Cardio-myopathy and Myocarditis. She was born Aug. 8, 1948 in Seattle, WA. to Harold and Dorothy Rogers, the second of three children. Cathy was preceded in death by her parents; brother George; and her husband Dick Hansen. Upon graduation from Highline HS in 1966, she came to Bellingham to attend WWSC earning a degree in education. It was in Bellingham where she made lifelong friends and met her future husband and soulmate, Dick Hansen. Cathy taught special education and then kindergarten classes in several area schools, primarily at Carl Cozier and Sunnyland Elementaries. She adored teaching and working with her students. Cathy and Dick loved the "farm life", first in Everson where they were married, and then in Wickersham where they raised their son, Ryan. Once retired, they downsized to a home at Lake Samish. Cathy had many interests and did everything to perfection. She always dressed with class and had a great appreciation for music, reading, art, gourmet cooking and travel. Having been to Europe and Mexico in the past, one would find her in recent years, enjoying sunny Palm Springs during the coldest winter months. After her husband passed, Cathy generously donated her time to volunteering at Hospice House. Known to many as "Ms. Rogers", she will be remembered and deeply missed by family and over-lapping circles of friends-- "The Chiwawas"; her book club; her knitting groups; her yoga classmates; her crafting circle and last but not least, "The Babes". Cathy leaves behind her cherished son Ryan, of whom she was extremely proud; her beloved brother Doug; brother-in-law Steve (Karolyn) Hansen, sisters-in-law Kathleen (Paul) Armstrong and Judy (Peter) Heyman; cousins: Sandra, Joanne, and Phyllis; nieces: Theresa (Ted) Mayer, Jennifer (Larry) Fransson, Kerri Hansen, and Susan (Stan) Lovetro, Dana (Peter), Angela Arroyo; nephews: Bill (Lea) Armstrong, Bill (Ali) Hansen, Jeff (Trinh) Haselton, Kris (Kelly) Haselton, Brian (Becca) Haselton; and The Worley Family (Bob, Lana and Rita). This extraordinary woman, Cathy Hansen--loving wife, mother, and sister will remain in our hearts forever. A memorial celebration will be planned later next spring. Donations in Cathy's honor can be made to Myocarditisfounda tion.org, Hospice House, public libraries or to any organization for the developmentally disabled. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/bellinghamherald/obituary.aspx?pid=176963785#sthash.gyKnvfaI.dpuf   Published in Bellingham Herald on Dec. 20, 2015

I'm so saddened to here of Cathy's passing. She was My Best Friend in High school and was looking forward to seeing her at the Reunion. Cathy, Sue Lenher, Diane Ackley and I had the most wonderful memories together. I spent a lot of my time at Cathys house and Loved Her Mom and Dad , even remember having to put up with Doug, you know how " Little Brothers" are and was  very Happy the day She got Married to have George "give Her away" because Her Dad had passed by then. Her Mom was a amazing Advocate of Disabled and Cathy and I spent our part Summers as Camp Counselors at Waskowitz Camp for the Disabled "Kids" Wow did we have a blast. There were other Teens from our Highscool involved too, and I must say there were things that happened that our parents I'm sure never knew about! Bless you Cathy for the wonderful person you are, for Sharing a tiny part of your Life with Me. You Will Truly Be Missed in My Heart
