Susan Kirkpatrick (Durham)

Susan I. DURHAM

Surrounded by her entire family, Susan I. Durham passed away on March 6th, 2011 from lung cancer and its complications. Susan was born January 27, 1948 in Pocatello, ID. Susan and her brother Terry moved with their parents, Brian and Betty Kirkpatrick, to Seattle in 1950. Susan's family settled in Burien, WA where she attended Highline High School. Susan graduated in 1966. Following high school, Susan attended Central Washington University and graduated in 1971 with a degree in Elementary Special Education. Susan's career was spent as an educator in the Renton School District at Renton Highlands Elementary. Susan is preceded in passing by her mother, Betty, and survived by her husband of 35 years, John Durham. Susan's brother, Terry, lives in Walla Walla, WA. Her father, Brian, lives in Burien with his wife, Earlene. Susan's step daughter, Joanne, step grandmother, Dottie, and best friend Vee Steele were also very special people in her life. The rest of Susan's family live in Iowa, So. Dakota, Nebraska, and Ohio. Susan will always be remembered as the hub of her family; she kept her finger on the family pulse. She was pragmatic, yet sensitive, honest with a rye sense of humor, caring, realistic and always willing to champion for children who have less than they need. Susan's no non-sense style was always appreciated by those who knew her-she will be missed. At Susan's request, her family will celebrate her life in private. Please feel free to remember Susie through the charity she felt very strongly about: www.seattlehumane.org.
